Time Out for Speedy's

Roger Johnson, Dan Andriacco, Barbara Winter, and Steve Winter at Speedy's.
Here's one for fans of BBC Sherlock:

On our first day in London earlier this month we had lunch at Speedy's with Roger Johnson, editor of the Sherlock Holmes Society of London's newsletter. As Sherlock fans know, this little cafe is right next door to 221B Baker Street in the series, making it a frequent haunt of Sherlock and John.

In reality, it's located at 187 North Gower Street in London, a great little cafe with good food and a cash-only policy. When the exterior was filmed for television, the building next door was outfitted with a "221B" address. You can still see the outline on the outside wall. Interior scenes were also shot at Speedy's in one episodes.

I'd corresponded with Roger Johnson and also seen him interviewed on a Sherlock Holmes documentary, but this was our first meeting. I wasn't surprised to find that he was a jovial raconteur. He's coming to the United States in August for the triennial conference of the Norwegian of Minnesota. I hope to be there, too!
