This Symposium Simply Scintillates!

Next Friday, June 12, Ann and I will be enjoying the company of about a hundred of our best friends, some of which we will be meeting for the first time.

We are driving to Maryland for A Scintillation of Scions VIII, my fourth time at the event. Scintillation is a symposium of fans of Sherlock Holmes, Dr. Watson, and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, sponsored by the Watson's Tin Box scion society.

Creator and organizer Jacquelynn Morris, ASH, BSI, calls it “a Sherlockian family reunion.” And so it is. In addition to a terrific lineup of speakers, Scintillation presents ample opportunities to hobnob with fellow Sherlockians, from the opening night reception on Friday evening (6-9:30 p.m.) to the first Basil Rathbone Celebratory Birthday Dinner on Saturday.

In this digital age, no Sherlockian needs to be isolated. We can communicate with like-minded fanatics from all over the world on-line. But as I’ve written before, shyness and even self-doubt should keep no one from the pleasure of real-world events. The benefits of attending a Sherlock Holmes conference are multiple, as I have enumerated at length.

If you have never been to a Sherlockian event, A Scintillation of Scions VIII is a great place to start. But hurry! Registration ends at midnight Friday, June 5. So register now!
